About Interlocking Concrete Pavers:
Pavers are mechanically formed concrete bricks and blocks made to simulate cobblestone, tile, slabs, or even chiseled stone. The use of concrete pavers for patios and driveways have been gaining popularity over the years. Historically, the use of clay / brick pavers in landscaping had been more popular. But pavers have evolved and now instead of using brick pavers, interlocking concrete pavers are preferred in modern landscapes. This is due to their increased strength. And in recent years there have been major improvements in the variety and patterns of pavers available.
Compared with other hardscapes, pavers have a lot of advantages and few drawbacks. The main advantage to pavers vs. concrete is they do not crack. Even if something like a large tree root raises one area of the pavers, it’s simple just to dismantle and repair that one area – no permanent damage occurs. Pavers are also nice in that they are nearly perfectly flat. Depending on the variety you chose, they can be very easy to place furniture on and for kids to play on. Pavers are also very stable as long as they are installed correctly. We follow NCMA standards which states that a minimum of 6" of base material be installed over a Geosynthetic soil separation fabric with 1" of concrete sand for the bedding layer. Some local paver companies omit the soil separation fabric thinking that our soils are very hard. The fact is, most Maryland soils are clay based and will shift when they become wet. We offer a 3 year warranty for the installation and the materials carry a lifetime warranty.
